Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka is a British-American musician and sitarist. She won the British House of Commons' Shield in the year of her youngest and the first female to receive it. In addition to nine Grammy nominations and nine Grammy nominations, she also became the first Indian-born musician to perform at the award ceremony. Anoushka Shankar is among India's rising stars in the sitar. She is both the student and daughter of Ravi Shankar. Her birthplace was London in 1982. During her first years she split her time between London New Delhi. When she was 13, she gave her debut performance on stage in New Delhi. In the following years, in Encinitas CA she attended high school and graduated with distinction in 1999. Anouskha, who is only 17 years old, has had an impressive recording and performing career. She often joins her father in performances this she's done for quite a few years. In 1998, she released her first single album Anourag. The Grammy-nominated Live at Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. The stage is a very significant part of her work. She's played in many major venues all over the world. Her career extends beyond the realm of music. She also published Bapi The Love of My Life in 2002. The book is a biographical work that is a tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. In 2003, she appeared as the role of a Bharat natyam young dancer in Dance Like a Man. Anoushka Shankar's work continues to unfold and we are likely to see a variety of things from her in years to come. Anoushka was a frequent traveler and spent lots of time between London and Delhi throughout her childhood. Then, she relocated to California for high school. She began learning music at the age nine and performed on the sitar in celebration of the 75th anniversary the birth of her father in Delhi just four years after. Anoushka had the opportunity to acquire a variety of valuable experiences as she traveled with her father on his world tour. This included performing in Carnegie Hall and at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD concerts and performing with George Harrison. She was the first woman to be awarded the House of Commons Shield, given by the British Parliament as recognition of her talent and musicianship in the Asian Arts.
